What is Load Hive Feature in Registry ? How can i use it ?
What is Load Hive Feature in Registry ?
A hive is a logical group of keys, subkeys, and values in the registry that has a set of supporting files containing backups of its data.
Each time a new user logs on to a computer, a new hive is created for that user with a separate file for the user profile. This is called the user profile hive. A user's hive contains specific registry information pertaining to the user's application settings, desktop, environment, network connections, and printers.
How can i use it ?
Follow following procedure assuming user has previously logged into the PC ( if she is a user in corporate company with roaming profile)
Step I - Logon to the PC with admistrative account and go to Start > run > regedit.
Step II - Highlight the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-window as shown below.

Step III - Go to File and select Load Hive.
Step IV - Navigate to C: drive > document and settings > (%userprofile%/ntuser.dat). Here, userprofile is the name of the user you will be changing registry key for.
Note: If you can't see NTUSER.DAT, make sure "show hidden files and folder" is tick on folder options.

Step V - When prompted for a name, give it whatever name you like (for ex; test1). The name will be used to create a new node in the tree so you can browse the offline registry.

Step VI - Go to newly created node and change whatever registry value you need to change and save it. This will change the registry value for user when he/she next logon to the PC.

Step V - Once you done with the registry value , select newly created node, go to File > Unload Hive.
