Outlook 2003 allows users to access all parts of a users Mailbox and the Public Folder through one place. Shortcuts navigation bar is available to add custom shortcuts and groups of shortcuts. Sometime users add so much to this list that loosing this shortcut will be great pain. Here we will look onto how to save outlook shortcut if incase users looses it while cleaning outlook profile or user logon profile.

Follow following instruction to backup Outlook Shortcut

Step 1

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

 user = Logged on user code

Step 2

Copy xml file called Default Outlook Profile.xml and save it to safe location (anywhere in your c: drive or USB stick).

Note: Shortcut added to outlook after backing this xml file will not be copied over. You need to backup the file again once new shortcut is added.

Step 3

If something goes wrong with your outlook and if you couldn't find all of your shortcut, you have to copy backedup xml file and copy it to same location "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook". You will be asked for File Replace, click on Yes.
