Make Windows 7 shut down faster
More programs you install on to your Windows 7 PC, it slows down and can take a long time to shut down your PC. More Programs means more services and when you shut down your PC it waits for all the services to stop before it continues with the shut down. However if you have all your work saved, there is no need to wait for these services to stop. Follow following steps to perform registry hack to decrease "wait to kill service timeout" and shut down your PC faster.
Step I - Go to start menu and type regedit and hit enter. You'll need to OK a User Account Control Prompt first.

Step II - Navigate in the left tree view to the following location as shown below
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

Step III - In the right pane you will see a key called "WaitToKillServiceTimeout", with a default value of 12000 (12 seconds). Right Click on key and click Modify as shown below

Step IV - Change the value data from 12000 to 4000 as shown below.

This will reduce your shut down time by 8 seconds, Computer Anthem don't recommend this value to be less than 4000 as this might increase the chance of data loss.
