How to take Ownership of a system files, folder, registry key, or drive in Windows 7 ?
In Windows 7 system files and folders are owned by the Trusted Installer. Not even members of the Administrators group can modify these objects or change permissions unless they first take ownership.
For demonstration purposes we will be using C:\Windows folder and will be assigning ownership permission to administrators group.
Step I - Right-click C:\Windows and select Properties.

Step II - Switch to the Security tab.

Step III - Click Advanced.

Step IV - Switch to the Owner tab.

Step V - Click Edit.
Step VI - Select Administrators and Tick Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and Click OK.

Step VII - Click OK to close the Windows Security information popup message.

Step VIII - Click OK.
Step IX - Click OK to close Properties.
